Explore 2019: Attitude Adjustment

I mentioned the other week that as I anticipate a heavy spring travel schedule, one of the things I'm working on is a counterpoint with my kids...both time spent together and then saying yes (within reason!) to stuff they are excited about that I may just be meh (or a lot less than meh) about.

Case in point: The other week Violet informed me that basketball is her second favorite sport to watch (I had no idea...I have never seen her watch a basketball game!) and that she wanted to go watch the teacher vs. 5th grade basketball game. Honestly, I groaned a lot inside. Our school is wonderful but in the evenings I tend to be so spent and in need of quiet time!

But I said yes and even though I had a long day, before we headed out I took a deep breath and said to myself, "OK Christine....MOVE INTO THIS EXPERIENCE! Embrace it! Get excited! Get ready to cheer!"

It was a kind of ridiculous yet hilarious pep talk but wow, it actually helped in terms of attitude adjustment. And it ended up being a really nice way to support a school fundraiser, cheer for the kids and teachers, and connect with some parent friends. And you know what, it wasn't as noisy as I anticipated! And I cheered a lot!
