Explore 2019: Weekly Local Adventures

Last summer I got so painfully stuck...I felt relentless FOMO whenever I looked at social media and everyone's amazing travel adventures while I toiled away at work. I hated that I was the person who felt grumpy and resentful over other people's happy moments.

The other week I found myself starting to fret a little and slide back into the FOMO zone...I felt internal pressure to set up a big travel adventure for my family this summer but couldn't figure out how to coordinate the moving pieces and uncertainties in our schedules.

And then I took a deep breath and a few big steps back. I talked about this a bit in today's new Edit Your Life episode but one thing that has been very powerful to realize is that my kids and I get a lot of joy out of local adventures. So I decided that instead of getting my knickers in a twist over trying to plan a big adventure this summer, every week I want to shoot for at least one fun, local adventure with my kids... whether it's directly in our community or a little further afield.

Last night I kicked this local summer love off by taking the kids to Cirque du Soleil (thank you for the invitation, Cirque!). Not going to lie, I had a few moments where I was tempted to bail because I was tired and I knew it would be a late night. And I'm so glad I didn't! It was truly amazing to see the incredible things the human body can do (seriously, these performers have muscles I didn't even know existed!) and Laurel and Violet LOVED it. Violet thanked me repeatedly and said, "This is one of the best things I have seen in my whole life!" It was the perfect reminder that we don't need a big travel adventure to create lasting memories.
