Embrace 2020 136/365: Welcome, James

Meet, JAMES (the girls picked this name...my Dad's name). It seems trite to share that we got a puppy during pandemic but this has actually been a long-standing consideration that has involved many conversations, a persuasive poster presentation, and a (further persuasive) video. I have been the hold-out since I work out of home and pretty much all the time I'm like, "I don't have enough time! I don't want to be responsible for more shit!" And then the other week, Jon said something (on a different topic) about living the life you want to live and I was like, "I want to be a person who isn't always logical. I want to be a person who sometimes makes love-based decisions over logistical ones." And so last Wednesday I texted him out of the blue that I wanted to get a dog and 6 days later after lots of research we went to visit two puppies. One upshot of being in Koh World is that when I get on board, shit moves fast!

I really wanted to rescue a shelter dog but due to my allergies we couldn't go with the unknown in terms of a mix. When we visited the poodle puppies I literally stuck my face in them to see if I had an allergic reaction. This pup immediately came over and locked eyes with me and snuggled in. He has the sweetest temperament. OMG. DOG LOVE IS A THING.

Also, it's 100% true that having a puppy is like having a baby. This morning my eyes immediately popped open and I was so relieved that he was still breathing + I celebrated that he slept through the night, didn't pee in his crate, ate breakfast, and pooped outside. I remember being so relieved when my babies ate, drank, and pooped. Once again, my life will center around rejoicing over bodily functions!
