Protective + Restorative Care
This fall I started using the phrase "protective and restorative care" in reference to self-care because while the term self-care is more economical in characters, due to that economy, it can't encapsulate how involved and multidimensional the work of taking care of ourselves is.
As I have continued to think about what protective and restorative care looks like and how it plays out in our complicated, messy, everyday lives, I have realized that the acts of protectiveness and restoration work in tandem. Meaning, you need to tap into both things in order for either thing to stick. It's actually what the Edit Your Life ethos is all about -- in plainer terms, editing out the crap so you have room for the awesome.
No doubt there are further dimensions to the duality of protective and restorative care, but here's what it looks like for me right now. I hope this is helpful to you as you close out this tumultuous year and think about how you want to show up, both for yourself and others, in 2021. I am rooting for you always.
