Explore 2019 #278: Embracing easy

I just want to make something clear. I love skiing and how transformative it has been for our family *and* I am not that great at it! My 8yo passed me in ability in one season and I'm good with it!

A couple of weeks ago on our first ski outing of the year I went on a difficult blue trail (IMO more black than blue...it was steep and loaded with moguls) during a lesson and even though my brain was totally calm it was pretty ugly getting down and apparently I was really bearing into my right foot and I ripped open the skin on my right bunion. (OMG OWWWW). The last couple of weeks I have been hobbling around gingerly, begging the skin to heal.

So on this trip I have been all about embracing easy so as not to worsen the injury...in this case green trails with limited blue exceptions. Yesterday we skied all day and the skin is holding up (thank you, moleskin). Next test is I have a lesson this afternoon and I think I'm gonna be like, "Can you move me a level down?!" I guess my point is, in general in life, it's great to challenge yourself and push the limits. But there are times when you need to listen to your gut and body and step off the gas. Also, as it relates to skiing, you can still have a 100% rad time taking the easy way down.
