Explore 2019 #294: Small and mighty

Do your kids love playing sports? Quite frankly, as a kid who happily sat squarely in the orchestra/marching band/school newspaper/drama club camp, I never imagined I'd have sporty kids but both Laurel and Violet are athletic.

Violet decided she wanted to try basketball this past summer and fell in love with it -- she even won a trophy at the end of the summer league. She's currently in a girls 3rd and 4th grade league and my favorite thing about watching her play is that even though she is one of the smallest kids in the league (sometimes by A LOT... her teammate running ahead of her in this photo is maybe a couple of feet in the foreground, but still, she's probably a foot or more taller than Violet) she is damned scrappy! She's fast, dribbles like a boss, and has become known for her ability to steal the ball from the opposition. It's so fun to watch and has shifted my language from "small but mighty" to "small AND mighty."
