Mushrooms

Y'all I HARVESTED FOOD YESTERDAY.

Let me back up and say that I definitely identify as a city girl but over the last several years (maybe after watching survival shows like Alone) I have been thinking, wow, I really need some skills. Like, not internet skills. Survival skills of any kind. It is legit on my list to learn how to fish at some point, but meanwhile, I have been thinking about learning how to grow things. My mind is especially on herbs, produce, and plants with natural medicinal properties.

But the other thing is that we have a tiny backyard and very little "farmable" space. Last week I decided to order a kit from Fat Moon Farm because I figured, OK, let's see about growing something that does not even require me to go outside. 😂

Well, wow. In 5 days that really only required me to mist my mushroom block a few times a day, I harvested a crapload of mushrooms yesterday. SO SATISFYING. I have been getting a bunch of questions about them so I set up a "Mushrooms" highlight in my profile so you can see the Stories I have shared about it from start to finish (and will continue to share as my mushroom block regenerates).

I know I was originally feeling curmudgeonly about ordering the block (I was already pondering it then saw an article referring to mushroom growing as the sourdough of 2021 and I was like I DO NOT WANT TO BE ON TREND!) but wow, totally amazing, magical process and last night I caramelized onions, added a bunch of mushrooms + tofu + some sriracha mayo and OMGGGGGG.

Anyway, go buy a kit. You will not be disappointed! As I said, I have zero growing skills and I grew this thing!
