Thanksgiving 2021

How was your holiday yesterday? Ours was wonderful and relaxed with one of my favorite things: lots of baking time with my kids! I think one of the reasons I love baking is because I invariably fuck something up and so hello lessons about imperfection and creativity! 😆 Here's what worked and didn't. Numbers correspond to slides and I lost natural light on the latter ones so regretfullythose photos aren'tawesome! Also, none of these crusts are G-F. I sampled little bites and focused on the fillings! 😆

1. We repeated last year's sausage, caramelized onion, and boursin on golden cheese crust. OMG. ⭐

2. Black bottom (ganache) chocolate pecan pie with chocolate crust to bring to my sister's Thanksgiving. Report was that it was awesome.

3. Apple with gingerbread crust. Sooooo awesome to not have to peel apples. This was delicious!

4. Pumpkin with oatmeal cookie crust. Fuck up #1: I ruined the whipped cream so it was naked. But wow, this filling was amazing.

5. This was supposed to be a German chocolate pie (chocolate crust) but (fuck up #2) I couldn't find evaporated milk and my attempt to do math to sub in dry milk was a FAIL. 😆 Skipped the milk based topping and just covered with toasted coconut. Filling was dense and delicious and would have benefited from whipped cream had I not fucked that up earlier!

6. Major fuck up #3: Was planning on a tres leches slab pie but the crust was a disaster and because of my failed evaporated milk sub the filling did not set! Literally had to toss the whole thing in the garbage! Used extra apple filling from #3 to make a free-form apple tart to bring to friendsgiving. MAKE IT WORK!
