Embrace 2020 108/365: pandemic upgrade

Generally speaking, I'm a really good advocate for myself and get myself what I need. But sometimes Curmudgeonly Christine comes to play and for whatever reason just suffers along with the situation du jour.

A few weeks ago Jon saw me poring over a super detailed client project plan on my laptop. I think the font size was "5" and there were a million rows and columns. As a project plan nerd this thing (created by someone even more nerdy than me) is a thing of beauty but I basically can't even see it in screen-share mode when the team is reviewing it on a Zoom call. Jon told me I needed a bigger screen. Curmudgeonly Christine was like, "OK" and promptly returned to squinting over said project plan.

Fast forward to this past weekend and the subject of the screen came up again. This time my response evolved from "OK" to "Good idea but I'm already exhausted with life so the idea of figuring out what monitor to get ain't gonna happen. Maybe I'll deal with it after the pandemic." (Related, I still can't believe we're saying shit like, "Maybe I'll deal with it after the pandemic.") I went back to my book and looked up a few minutes later and saw Jon alternately walking around with a measuring tape and tapping away at his phone. An hour later he said, "I found a top rated, affordable solution. I'm sending you the link so you can put it on your business card. Go order it now."

OMG YOU GUYS. The monitor arrived yesterday and Jon set everything up for me last night. I'm working for the first time with this new set up and this is a major quality of work life upgrade. I am so grateful for Jon's intervention. Also, lesson = don't be Curmudgeonly Christine. Get what you need right now if you can because any little upgrades you can make during a pandemic are powerful.
