December 2021 Reads

What did you read and love this month? I didn't read much, but books #46 and #47 of the year were solid.

"Five Little Indians" by Michelle Good was a heartbreaking read, a story of struggle and survival for kids who endured humiliation and abuse at American Indian boarding schools. This is a painful and important read.

When I told my dear friend Casey that I was thinking about writing memoir, they said, YOU NEED TO READ STEPHEN KING’S MEMOIR BOOK. Given that "It" (which I read 30+ years ago) is the reason I still don't walk near sewer drains (and was where my consumption of King's books thus ended) I wasn't sure his voice would resonate but WOW. I loved everything about "On Writing"; his permission for fragmented memories, the origin stories behind his books, the technical recommendations, and more. Now I just need to figure out how to carve out time to write 2,000 words a day. LOL.

I do want to call out one book that I didn't finish, notable because I made it to page 100 (my usual abandon litmus is 50 pages). I tried Liane Moriarty's "Apples Never Fall" and I just could not get behind and root for any of the characters by page 100. Major bummer. Did any of you love it?
