Explore 2019: Prioritizing Friendship

I have been stretched pretty damned thin these days and if you had asked me -- using my logical brain -- whether it made sense to carve 3.5 hours out of my Friday to drive to meet a friend for lunch, I would have told you you were NUTS. But man, lunch with Audrey McClellan was exactly what I needed.

Audrey and I have know each other from the very beginning. We both started blogging around 2006 and our careers have iterated in a number of ways, including books, podcasts, video, and more. She is one of the most down to earth people I know in this business and she also knows exactly what my experience is like as a professional Internet person shouldering a major amount of financial and logistical responsibility.

Audrey and I don't have the opportunity to get together for lunch too often (it takes us 45-60 minutes to meet midway) but we put this lunch on the books a month ago and you guys, it was like medicine. I have been stressed lately to the point of developing stress-related dandruff (OMG this apparently is a thing...I will be sharing more on this soon), grinding my teeth during my sleep (sorry, Jon), and basically being a little extra to everyone I know (SORRY EVERYONE). But wow, there is serious wonder in prioritizing friendship. Pick up your phone and call or text a pal today to make a coffee or lunch date. You deserve it.
