January 2021 Reads
OK, 4 books to share from this month! I thought I would have another book or two to share but unfortunately I false started on a couple of titles -- got around 50 pages in and then pulled the ripcord! As ever would love to hear what you are reading and loving!
1️⃣ Wow, starting 2021 with "Transcendent Kingdom" by Yaa Gyasi was basically reading goals. This book -- weaving threads of painful family loss and discord, faith, and science -- is beautifully written at a baseline, but I also appreciated Gifty's perspective given my former life as a neuroscience.
2️⃣ I read "The Worst Best Man" by Mia Sosa during the dumpster fire week of domestic terrorism on the Capitol and it offered periodic blessed distraction. It was a super sweet read with some steamy scenes and I could definitely appreciate the threads re: family expectation and sibling rivalry.
3️⃣ Oh man it is a major gift when you have a book that you can't put down starting at page 1! "The Last Flight" by Julie Clark was that book for me. Painful and possibly triggering if you have been in an abusive relationship or felt boxed in by the circumstances of a tough growing up but such a good read.
4️⃣ I will admit that I had several moments of cranky old lady, "can't these kids get their shit together?" while reading "Majesty" by Katharine McGee but it was still a nice, light read to take me through a stressful time.
