March 2022 Reads

Wow, what an amazing reading month. I only started/abandoned maybe one or two titles. Here are my thoughts on what I read in March. As ever, I would love to hear what books you loved!

1. After a kind of abysmal reading month in February (started and aborted many titles), what a JOY it was to have "So We Meet Again" by Suzanne Park be my first read of March. This is the first contemporary romance I have read by a Korean author and wow, representation surely matters. I could see myself and my parents in the characters and food and it was just delightful. Even if you aren't Korean, if you want a story that is about finding your way, Internet virality, and family acceptance, this is a great read. The steam factor is light, so if descriptive sex scenes make you blush, you'll be fine here!

2. I wasn't sure if I was up for a COVID-inspired read but Jodi Picoult is a genius storyteller and she did not disappoint in "Wish You Were Here." I was immediately captivated by the story and did not see the twist coming. Picoult is magical in painting visuals through words and bringing heart and complexity to her characters. I loved this book and my heart hiccupped (in a good way) at the end.

3. Fans of Lucy Foley's "The Guest List" will not be disappointed in another page turner in "The Paris Apartment." As someone for whom the mere idea of writing a novel is daunting, writing suspense seems even more daunting! I was originally a little disappointed by the big scandal reveal because it felt a little, well, common, but then there were several other totally-unexpected-to-me reveals that were highly satisfying.

4. I was positively mesmerized reading "Black Cake" by Charmaine Wilkerson. It is the rare kind of book that had me looking for snippets of time during the day to get another few pages in (no joke, envision me standing in the kitchen reading while waiting for my lunch to heat up!). It is a beautiful and at times painful story about love, loss, and interwoven histories. I appreciated the complexity of every character (even when I was furious with one of them) and I loved every page.
