The Softening That Occurs in Memorializing Life

Feeling deeply moved by the softening that occurs in memorializing life...how perspectives shift, narratives gain context, empathy deepens, and new versions of old relationships glimmer into possibility.

Be kind and forgiving to one another. Assume that people are doing the best they can at a given time and likely have deep struggles and wounds -- as well as gifts and perspective -- you know nothing about.

Today was the first time since the beginning of the pandemic that I put on real shoes and it actually felt symbolic of re-entering the world. Yes, being in a church probably had something to do with it but also being among strangers who are full of love and coming together in community. It's been a long time since I have felt hope for humanity like that and I am writing it down here so I don't forget it.
