Post-Memorial Thoughts

Pursuant to my last post, other things on my mind I don't want to forget following today's memorial...

1. How much I loved seeing my mom and aunt surrounded by love at their church. So many people told me what an incredible person my mom is, to which I replied, "She's the very best lady!"

2. The power of seeing old photos of my cousin I had never seen before. 😭

3. How love and care translate perfectly fine when everyone is masked. In fact, focusing on people's eyes is a beautiful thing.

4. Related to #3, how tightly my aunt squeezed my hand while we talked and focused on each other's eyes. I want to write her a letter soon.

5. What a compliment it was that all the Korean ladies said the top half of my face (above the mask) looks like my mom.

6. How these individual lunch boxes (COVID friendly luncheon) were the most magical thing. Kimbap (sushi style Korean rolls), these incredible soft egg bites that were similar to what my halmoni (grandma) used to make (I called them eggies as a kid), pickled cucumber, and sliced radish. I could eat this every day.

Grateful to find light amidst tragedy. I feel profoundly changed by the confluence of circumstances and realizations happening.
